The Hubble telescope and dental veneers!

By Dr. Anthony DiSalvo III, DMD

Several years ago at the Hubble telescope astrophysicist and scientist observed a very interesting phenomenon. They observed some background noise that they could not determine where it was coming from. They examined the Hubble telescope and noticed there was a lot of pigeons and pigeon droppings all around it.

They sent the pigeons away and cleaned up the pigeon droppings. Unfortunately, the background noise continued. They determined that the sound was not from Earth, but from far away in deep space. They continued to study this strange event and came to the conclusion that the noise that they had been hearing was from the birth of our universe during the early stages of the Big Bang.

They also stated if you take your FM radio and turn it to a station that does not have music, but only has static, approximate 2% of that static sound is actually from the Big Bang. Can you imagine listening to that static? You barely know it’s there, and yet, it is probably the most significant observed and profound occurrence in the history of the universe and it almost goes unnoticed.

You may say what does the Hubble telescope have to do with dental veneers? They are both sitting quietly in the background, as if unnoticed, but they both have a very profound effect. For the Big Bang, that background sound made nothing into everything. And dental veneers, so small and so thin and barely less than one hundredth of 1% of your body weight can have such a profound effect on your smile, your confidence and yourself image.

So, this is how the sound of the Big Bang and the dental veneer are similar. Both are very small and go almost unnoticed and yet have such a profound effect on their environment.

Now that I have introduced you to dental veneers, let me explain to you, what they are and what we the dentists try to accomplish when we put them on your teeth. Dental veneers are a thin, white, hard form of porcelain that is glued or bonded to the front surface of your teeth. Dental veneers can change the color of your teeth, making them whiter than they presently are.

They can also change the shape and size up your teeth. You can make your teeth whiter. You can straighten crooked teeth. You can close spaces in between your teeth and you can even make your teeth look like a movie star’s teeth.
